The VLA is the U.S. Navy's only standoff anti-submarine weapon system for urgent attack against submarine threats. It is a rocket-propelled, three-stage anti-submarine warfare missile fired from the MK 41 vertical launching system. The VLA provides rapid response, all-weather torpedo attack against threat submarines at intermediate ranges in any direction.
