LongShot PDF Print E-mail

LongShot® is a low-cost, GPS/INS self-contained wing adaptor kit that provides range extension and autonomous guidance capability to a wide range of existing air-to-surface munitions. By using the munition's suspension lug wells as the attachment points, the kit easily adapts to general purpose bombs, cluster bombs, laser guided bombs, and sea mines.

Since LongShot does not require MIL-STD-1760 interface, it is compatible with most fighter and bomber aircraft. No aircraft OFP modification is required to deploy a LongShot-equipped munition. Targeting information can be input via a laptop computer or through an in-aircraft knee pad device that plugs into the aircraft intercom. The knee pad device establishes two-way communication with LongShot via the aircraft's UHF radio. This provides any combat aircraft without a 1760 smart weapons interface to have immediate, long standoff, and affordable precision strike capability.

The system is completely self-contained, including a flight control computer, a GPS-based navigation system, and an internal power source. Longshot uses conventional 14-inch suspension. If desired, aircraft interface may also be accomplished with the MIL-STD-1760 and -1553 connections. Thus, Lockheed Martin provides a one-step source for a family of LongShot-equipped standoff weapons - MK82, MK83, LGB, GBU-12, GBU-16, CBU-58, CBU-87, and CBU-97.
